Why should I use Microsoft Teams at EIT? Why is EIT going to use Teams?

Microsoft Teams is a replacement for Skype for Business and EIT is moving to this product. Team sites are customisable, interactive work spaces which integrate with other Microsoft 365 systems such as Outlook, OneDrive and Word.
EIT students will also be able to create and use team sites for group work or other collaborative purposes.

Who can I contact for support with my Microsoft Teams site?

If you would like assistance with using your Team site, please contact the library desk, Adam Smith ph. 06 830 1067 e. asmith@eit.ac.nz or otherwise please visit the online Teams training resources.

Can I use Microsoft Teams off-campus and at home?

Yes, there are many ways to access your Teams site off-campus and at home.

Can I use Microsoft Teams on my mobile phone and/or tablet?

Yes, you can download the Microsoft Teams application for your mobile phone and/or tablet device. Instructions about how you can do this are here. Alternatively, if you are having issues, please contact either the library desk, Adam Smith ph. 06 830 1067 e. asmith@eit.ac.nz or the IT helpdesk by phoning 06 974 8000 extension 4357 or emailing itsupport@eit.ac.nz.

How can I manage permissions to my team site?

If you're a team owner, you're in control of a lot of the settings and permissions of your team. Here's how to adjust them.

  1. Go to the team name and click More options  > Manage team.


In the Settings tab, check or uncheck the options or permissions you want to use.

How can I change an invited member to the team site as an administrator or team owner?

  1. In the teams list, go to the team name and select More options  > Manage team.
  2. In the Members tab, under Role, select the down arrow and change Member to Owner.

I want to add an app into my Team that isn't listed

We have removed the ability to add 3rd party apps into Teams. However, if you require an app to be added, please contact IT Services and these requests will be considered separately.

I don't need my Team site anymore, how can I delete it?

You won't need to do anything! As part of the teams site lifecycle, your team site will be deleted once it's reached its end date.
